This is a spikey Burl from The giant trees of Australia. I turned this one back in 2006 or so. It was in the store at the Memorial Art Galery in Rochester. It was the only bowl I ever have had there that didn't sell, but this was back when I was probably the only guy in thirty counties willing to turn these burls. The spikes tend to rip into the skin of my fingers as they rotate at 600 plus RPMs around my lathe. The lack of balence makes my lathe jump like a room full of square dancers on crack. They're not easy to turn. Bottom line, I've enjoyed this piece's company for going on twenty years. Figured, I need to make room for a new one and find this one a new home. It's still cheap because back then, these burls were selling at a third of what they get now.
